Here are the finalists to play the next Batgirl
Long teased but never delivered, the world finally gets a solo Bat girl movie. It is set to premiere on HBO Max and will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who previously directed the highly satisfying Bad boys for life. Who will play Batgirl, however, is still undecided.
According to Deadline, the film will feature Barbara Gordon Batgirl, the most famous version of the character. She already appeared in the 1960s Batman television series (played by Yvonne Craig), the Batman and robin movie (where she was played by Alicia Silverstone), The LEGO Batman Movie (where she was voiced by Rosario Dawson) and countless DC cartoons. Warner Bros. and DC are testing actresses to play Barbara Gordon “starting this week.” They specifically mention four names:
The deadline notes that even though they have heard Richardson’s name, “she may have bowed out before the testing process.” Nor do they say with certainty that these are the only finalists; just that these are the ones they have heard so far.
A Bat girl The film is in development at Warner Bros. since at least 2017, when Joss Whedon was announced to write and direct the film. Around the same time DC brought in Whedon for this project, they recruited him to complete Justice League after Zack Snyder left the film halfway through production. We all know how it happened – and maybe it’s not too surprising, Whedon’s Bat girl slowly faded into oblivion after that. News of another iteration of the project started to gain momentum this spring, with news of the directing by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. Now they just need a Batgirl and they’re good to go.
